RETIREMENT 'LIFESTYLE'  PLANNING

Transition into retirement - Are you ready?

Until recently, "retirement planning" consisted of financial planning alone. It was suggested that such planning would lead to a secure, fulfilling retirement. Although research supports the need for financial planning, it is quick to report its shortcomings as well. That is, money alone is not the answer to fulfilling the dreams of retirement! Rather, it takes a deep, soul-searching experience, otherwise known as retirement lifestyle planning to ultimately provide direction in your retirement years!

The Retirement LIFESTYLE Planning I provide explores the following areas of concern:

The above topics provide a different level of concern for each retiree. For instance, one retiree could be in great health while another suffers from chronic illness(es); or a lone female retiree, with little social support, has to care for an aging parent, while others do not face any particular care-giving issues. Moreover, some people have volunteered throughout their entire lives and continue to do so once retired, while other older adults plan to volunteer once retired, yet never truly know how to move that thought into action.

Ultimately, the RETIREMENT LIFESTYLE PLANNING I provide is far more involved than it initially appears to be. If this is an area of interest to you, and you wish to add years to your life by adding fulfilling life experiences to your years, please contact me, Judith Wheeler by clicking the 'Contact' item to the left of this screen.

Retirement

Retirement was once clearly defined as the cessation of work at age 65 years. However, due to the changing nature of retirement, it is no longer easily defined. Rather, longevity and increased health affords individuals to take more control of their so-called "retirement years" by allowing for a shift in employment opportunities, volunteerism, travel, care-giving obligations, and so forth.

Pre-retirement Planning

It is never too early to start planning for a healthy retirement. Such strategic planning requires financial security considerations, as well as for personal well-being and quality of life issues. Additionally, to help prepare for a better tomorrow, today's complex life situations must be resolved to the best of one's ability (e.g., caregiving needs, chronic health conditions, personal loses).

Post-Retirement Planning

DARE TO DREAM!  Once retired, a world of opportunities opens to you, if you desire change in your life, especially if you possess the belief that "It is never too late!"

Informed Life Choices

What is meant by "Informed Life Choices"? Too often, individuals have difficulty accessing information regarding community resources they require to meet their needs. In part, this is due to the complexity of today's life situations (e.g., forced retirement, caring for aged parents, facing possibility of 40 years of retirement). To make "informed life choices" requires an assessment and prioritizing of one's need and a full awareness of what is offered in the community to meet that need.

Independent Decision Making

What is meant by "independent decision-making"? An individual remains independent by ultimately making informed decisions based on his or her available options or "life choices".
